Meeting with Xuan-Thu Nguyen

Push the doors of the Haute Couture brand: Xuan. A colourful and poetic universe where each creation has its own story to tell thanks to the construction of the garment mixing intimacy, surprise but also fragility.

With a workshop based in Paris, this designer with an overflowing imagination makes her pieces travel and exhibit all over the world. Her collections are like a visual diary of her reflections, love and contradictions. An essential basis for developing non-verbal stories and transporting the spectator into a world where everything is luxury, poetry and serenity. Her creations combine poetry, travel, fragility, modernity and femininity.

Today, we introduce you to this warm, poetic and genuinely kind woman.
MEETING
Xuan-Thu Nguyen in a few words?
Me and my other selves (haha). I am who I am… but sometimes in contradiction with myself!
What is the music that’s playing on a loop in your house at the moment?
My husband is a music composer. As a result, he often wears his headphones and I stay with the children and their musical choices which are varied at the moment from pop to K-pop. But I like all kinds of music depending on my moods.
A little daily ritual?
With everyone around me, I always take 30 minutes for myself in the morning before arriving at the workshop.
A film that made an impression on you?
There are so many! But, if I had to choose, I would say “Lucy” with Scarlet Johansson. If you have read about how the Maya see us as human beings and energy, you might recognise the film’s underlying intentions. Otherwise, it is just a strange and hard film.
A woman of today that inspires you?
All the women of the world who fight for what they believe in.
What inspires you to create?
Life and people in general.
In a few words, what does it mean to be a woman today?
For me, the same as yesterday (haha). I think that we sometimes make it difficult or easy for ourselves depending on what we want and what we believe in.
If you could choose a woman in the world to dress, who would she be?
Anna Wintour, because I would like to have the freedom to dress her in a different style. I think it should be interesting and funny.
Today, what makes you feel fulfilled as a woman ?
Self-respect and self-love
A woman’s advice?
Be yourself and believe in what you want to do and who you want to become.
A leitmotif to share?
There is always something positive in our mistakes.
