A partnership for a greener climate
At the start of the year, many have taken new resolutions for 2021 and, it is with great pleasure that we officially announce the mobilization of the eco-responsible Belgian brand Van M alongside the organization “One Tree Planted ”to preserve biodiversity in four regions of the world: Africa, Latin America, North America and Asia.
With global warming, natural disasters continue to intensify, leaving damaged forests, homeless wildlife and the people living around these affected areas at risk, not to mention deforestation, which greatly reduces the capacity of the global ecosystem to store CO2.
This organisation restores forests after natural disasters (fires, floods) or following deforestation, at the same time creating employment while protecting biodiversity with a full benefit for nature and the climate, not forgetting the people living in these at-risk areas.
The values of “One Tree Planted” are: innovation, simplicity and experience without forgetting the six basic pillars of air, water, biodiversity, social impact, health and climate to propose ethical solutions.
One Tree Planted in 2020 with some figures :
- More than 10 million trees planted,
- 16 miles of restored hectares,
- 1498 jobs created,
- 2 million fruit trees planted,
- 29318 families supported,
- 8524 volunteers.
The regions supported by Van M :
Brazil: The Atlantic Forest, also known as the Mata Atlantica, once covered 130 million hectares across Brazil. Today, this tropical rainforest ecosystem covers only about 12% of its original area and is home to more than half of the country’s population. Centuries of deforestation for timber, sugar cane, coffee, cattle breeding and urban expansion have contributed to its current state. Almost all the remaining forests are in the western part of the state of São Paulo, including the Mooro do Diablo State Park, the Tamarin Black Lion Ecological Station and many other smaller forest fragments.
The Amazon: The Amazon River basin, home to emblematic species such as the jaguar, the black spider, the Amazon River dolphin and the poisonous frog, is a vast region with 1.9 billion hectares of tropical forest and more than 1,100 tributaries, 17 of which are more than 1,000 miles long. It is the world’s largest tropical rainforest ecosystem, stretching across 9 countries and home to nearly 30% of the world’s plant and animal species. And by sequestering around 90-140 billion tonnes of carbon, its forests play a key role in the fight against climate change. Unfortunately, due to logging, unsustainable agriculture and forest fires, this area is at high risk of deforestation and degradation. Planting trees in the Amazon forest will help conserve the habitat of its emblematic wildlife species, provide sustainable livelihoods for local people and stabilise the climate.
This commitment is not only a story between a brand and an organisation, it is also yours, because for every sale made, Van M will plant one tree to support reforestation in Brazil and the Amazon, two regions that inspire and are dear to the Van M creator.
