One Ocean Summit
A few days ago, Brest hosted the first global summit dedicated to the protection of the oceans: the One Ocean Summit.
On the proposal of the French President, Emmanuel Macron, the objective was to focus on the preservation of this increasingly threatened and polluted environment, which nevertheless plays an essential role in the fight against global warming.
The event, similar to the One Planet Summit, took place in two parts.
Hundreds of experts, leaders, scientists, NGOs, etc. first met to discuss various topics related to the oceans before concluding with the development of several resolutions.
These were then presented to the heads of state and government present.
Concrete recommendations and measures were adopted, even if not all the issues were resolved.
The actors present committed themselves to several treaties on biodiversity in the high seas, on plastic waste and on the fight against illegal fishing.
This summit is the first step towards a global commitment to protect these blue waters.
